Skin depth and undertone are different
Skin depth describes the visible range from very fair to very deep. Undertone describes the direction beneath the surface: cool, warm, neutral or olive. Two people with similar depth can therefore experience the same lipstick very differently.
Every color needs a job
A useful palette is more than a row of attractive hex values. A light or reflective shade opens the lid, a mid-tone shapes the crease, blush connects eyes and lips, and lip color often sets the contrast of the whole look. Stylematch labels that purpose for every makeup color.
Cool, warm, neutral and olive directions
Cool undertones often harmonize with rose, mauve, plum and cool taupe. Warm undertones frequently suit peach, terracotta, bronze and warm red. Neutral undertones can move between both directions. Olive undertones often benefit from bronze, muted berry, cocoa and shades that are neither too gray nor too orange.
Use contrast deliberately
A look can repeat your natural contrast or intentionally raise it. For daytime, one defined area may be enough — perhaps a deeper liner with otherwise soft colors. In an evening look, the lip color can take the strongest visual role.
Always verify on your own face
Screen colors, product pigments and lighting vary. Patch-test unfamiliar products, check ingredients and stop using anything that causes irritation. Stylematch offers aesthetic guidance, not medical or dermatological advice.
